Penn-Troy Projects Savings from LED System Upgrades

“Very high level of knowledge.” – Penn-Troy Manufacturing, Inc.

The Need

Penn-Troy is a manufacturer in Bradford County, Pennsylvania, that produces standard and custom valves. Penn-Troy had interest in reducing the energy consumption from their lighting system.

The PennTAP Connection

Penn-Troy contacted PennTAP to find potential funding sources for a lighting upgrade project. While visiting, PennTAP also assessed the facility for other energy-saving opportunities.

The Project

This project was supported and funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and the U.S. Department of Energy’s State Energy Program. PennTAP worked with Penn-Troy to evaluate potential funding opportunities based on the facility’s size, location, and project schedule. Based on discussions with Penn-Troy, PennTAP recommended applying for the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) grant to upgrade to an LED lighting system. PennTAP can also provide assistance with the technical analysis for the grant application.

The Outcome

Penn-Troy is expected to save 187 million British Thermal Units (BTU) per year, equivalent to $7,000 per year, as a result of the upgrades to the lighting system. The USDA REAP grant could pay up to $3,800 for the project, creating a payback period of 1.6 years.
