PennTAP Teams with LORD Corporation to Assess and Improve Second Facility

I liked the assessment because it supported LORD Corporation’s goals for improved environmental performance and offered further financial justification to complete facility upgrades. LORD Corporation appreciates the technical support and valuable (no-cost) services provided by PennTAP. What a great resource for Pennsylvania businesses!

The Need

LORD Corporation is a diversified technology and manufacturing company developing adhesives, coatings, motion management devices, and sensing technologies that significantly reduce risk and improve product performance. LORD Corporation’s Cambridge Springs, PA, facility has been primarily using older lighting technology, having upgraded only some of their lighting to LED. LORD was interested in seeing what savings could be realized with a full switch to LEDs, since the initial results proved to be promising. LORD also expressed interest in checking their compressed air lines to detect and repair any leaks.

The PennTAP Connection

PennTAP previously worked with LORD Corporation on projects at their Saegertown, PA, facility. During that assessment, PennTAP identified $35,000 in annual savings. Since the first project was a success, LORD Saegertown put PennTAP in touch with the Environment, Health, and Safety Department at LORD’s Cambridge Springs facility.

The Project

This project was funded in part by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and the U.S. Department of Energy’s State Energy Program. A team of PennTAP technical advisors twice visited the Cambridge Springs, PA, LORD facility to conduct two separate site assessments: one for lighting, and the other for compressed air use.

The Outcome

LORD Corporation followed PennTAP’s recommendation to continue their transition to LED lighting. The lighting changes that were made will save $18,000 per year with a one-time capital expenditure of $22,000. Energy savings are estimated at 177,000 kilowatt hours per year. The client also made changes recommended by the compressed air audit and will save $10,000 per year and avoid an additional $6,000 per year in costs. Energy savings are estimated at 220,000 kilowatt hours per year.
