By providing services and solutions to Pennsylvania businesses and organizations, PennTAP creates opportunities for Penn State students to participate in projects outside of their classes.
Many students acquire experience by conducting an energy assessment for a manufacturing facility or other operation, and then assist with the development and implementation of an energy reduction strategy. This provides students with a real-world, practical application of their education, as well as the chance to make connections within the community.
Students may also have the opportunity to participate in industry-based design projects at the Bernard M. Gordon Learning Factory, a hands-on facility providing modern design, prototyping, and manufacturing processes, including machining (CNC and manual), 3D printing, welding, metrology, and CAD/CAM.
Our clients, in turn, benefit from the application of the most up-to-date best practices to reduce energy costs, minimize environmental impact, and increase profitability. They also get a chance to work with motivated, bright students and gain insight on a potential future employee. Additionally, the continued growth of thriving businesses can create attractive jobs to keep Penn State graduates in Pennsylvania, reducing the state’s brain drain.
PennTAP can also send a representative to a classroom to present a guest lecture or to share the opportunity to participate in an upcoming project.
