Michael McCann is a technical advisor for Energy and Environment for PennTAP. Michael assists companies throughout the Commonwealth to understand and implement the ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems standard, a standard that helps to systematically improve a company’s energy efficiency and its bottom line. He also guides companies toward achieving the Department of Energy’s more advanced Superior Energy Performance (SEP) certification, a recognition for companies that are leaders in energy management and performance improvement. Furthermore, Michael performs on-site energy assessments at small and medium-sized companies in Pennsylvania to help them improve the energy efficiency of their operations.
In his previous position, Michael spent more than 21 years ensuring the continued regulatory compliance of a nonprofit advanced research and development organization that specializes in scientific and engineering solutions for the Department of Defense. In doing so, he worked with the National Defense Center for Energy and Environment to help various entities understand and comply with the regulations applicable to a wide variety of operations and state-of-the-art technology projects occurring throughout the world. Michael also has more than 18 years’ experience with the ISO 9001 and 14001 management standards, including helping to develop his previous employer’s management systems, establishing objectives and targets, creating procedures and training courses, and auditing.
Michael has a bachelor’s degree in history from Penn State and a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from Vermont Law School. Michael is a licensed attorney in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
